Welcome to Del Mar
Del Mar, California, "Where the Surf meets the Turf," was originally a parcel of 338 seaside acres, purchased in 1885 by Colonel Jacob Taylor, who envisioned development of a resort town for the rich & famous. Today, that vision certainly has long since been achieved, as the list of celebrities calling Del Mar home is long & storied.
The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club hosts horse racing every summer at the world famous Del Mar Racetrack. Opening Day at the track is always the place to be for a great party & races, with the Ladies Fancy Hat Contest showing off all of the creative beauty of the most out-going of San Diego's female populace.
The San Diego County fair is also held every summer, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. It's a great time for the entire family. There are fun games & exciting rides, a 4-H Farm Animal Contest & Sale, plus loads of indulgent foods to gorge on. Where else can you eat a deep fried Twinkie!?
Del Mar is also a place of wonderous natural beauty--home to the Torrey Pine & several great surfing beaches (most notably "Qualcomm Reef," at 15th Street), where you just might find yourself surfing with a couple of billionaires in any given day, when the waves are particularly good!!
